Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Torrex ("we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use the Torrex apps (desktop, Fire TV and Android TV) and the torrex.tv website. We have written this in plain English. If something is unclear, email us at contact@torrex.tv.
1. Bandwidth sharing
Torrex is free to use. To fund development and keep the app free, Torrex intends to participate in bandwidth-sharing programs. When this feature is active, a small portion of your unused internet bandwidth may be shared with our partner networks.
What this means in practice: your internet connection would be used to route anonymous, legitimate commercial traffic — web intelligence and market research — on behalf of our partners. Your personal browsing, streaming activity, and device data are never monitored, collected, or shared as part of this process.
Bandwidth sharing will be disclosed clearly on first launch and can be disabled in the app settings at any time. It will not be enabled without your knowledge.
When bandwidth sharing is active, your unused connection is routed through a third-party network provider. Their privacy policy governs how they handle that traffic. A link to the applicable policy will be provided within the app before bandwidth sharing is enabled.
2. Data we collect
Torrex works fully without an account. If you use it as a guest, your watch history, library and preferences are stored locally on your device only, and no personally identifiable information is collected.
If you choose to create an account (optional, used to sync across devices), we store on our servers: your email address, display name and a securely hashed password, plus the data you sync — watch history and playback progress, My List, collections, favourite people and reviews. This data is used only to provide the sync feature; it is never sold or shared with third parties. If you submit feedback or a bug report from the app, we store the message together with the app version and platform.
You can delete your account and all data associated with it at any time — see Delete Your Account. You can also clear your watch history without deleting your account, in Settings → Data in the app.
If bandwidth sharing is enabled, the app will generate a random device identifier at first launch. This ID:
- Is randomly generated and not derived from any hardware or personal data
- Is used solely to track aggregate bandwidth contribution for reward accounting
- Is not linked to your identity, location, or any other personal attribute
- Is stored locally on your device and shared only with the bandwidth-sharing network provider
Beyond the account-sync data described above, nothing else leaves your device: the app contains no analytics or tracking SDKs, and your streaming activity is never monitored or uploaded.
3. Bandwidth sharing SDK
Torrex plans to integrate a third-party bandwidth sharing SDK as part of its monetization model. When active, this SDK routes a portion of your unused internet connection through an external network for web intelligence and market research purposes.
This SDK operates independently of Torrex's streaming functionality. Enabling or disabling it will not affect your ability to stream content. Full details and a link to the provider's privacy policy will be disclosed within the app before the feature is activated.
4. Cookies and tracking
The Torrex desktop application does not use cookies. The torrex.tv website does not use analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising scripts. No data about your visit to this website is collected or shared.
5. Children's privacy
Torrex is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through Torrex, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Torrex after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
7. Governing law
This Privacy Policy is governed by applicable law. We aim to comply with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy regulations to the extent required by law.
