About Torrex

The story, the tech, and the trade that keeps it free.

Why Torrex exists

Streaming got worse. Content is split across a half-dozen subscriptions, prices rise every year, and the apps themselves keep getting slower and pushier. Torrex is a different answer: one fast, native desktop app where you pick the sources, own your library, and never see a paywall.

Torrex is a player and an organiser, it doesn't host any content. Sources come from Stremio addons you choose to install, streamed over torrent technology or through a debrid service if you have one.

How it's built

Torrex is a native app, not a wrapped website. The core is written in Rust on Tauri, video playback is handled by mpv, the same engine trusted by home-theater setups everywhere, and the interface is tuned to start fast, stay light, and get out of the way.

Metadata comes from TMDB. Your library, watch progress, and collections live on your device; sign in with a free account and they sync across your machines.

How it stays free

No subscription, no ads, no locked features. Development is funded by optional, clearly-disclosed bandwidth sharing, you can read exactly how that works on the Bandwidth Sharing page, and by partnerships with debrid services we'd recommend anyway.

What's next

Android TV is in final testing, with phones and tablets planned after. One account, every screen in sync. If you want a heads-up when new platforms land, leave your email on the download page.
